As
with most Balinese, our staff spends about 25% of their
life in spiritual devotion, meditation & prayer.
To a Balinese person, an interesting time will
often mean traveling to a new Temple (Pura) to pray, or
attending a ceremony (upacara). Often our staff must
take off days, weeks, or even months from their artistic
jobs and devote their time to family, community and
their culture. This may help explain why our staff is so
dedicated to their art and patient with all the detail
that is required for these special products we offer to
you.
Made (pronounced Maday) is from
Tampak Siring, the world famous center of fine Bone
& Ivory carving in
Bali. Made was born
May 5th, 1974
in Tampak Siring and has been carving various materials
since he was a small child. Like many Balinese artists,
he learned his craft from his family including his
brother Wayan Hudin who has also carved pendants for
BOBBY BEAD.
Made is a specialist in carving
highly intricate scenes in coconut shells including
lampshades and hair barrettes. Made makes a wide variety of bone
carvings for us, primarily as pendants and a fine
selection of buttons and cabochons. Some of Made’s
carvings include designs of Fairies, Goddesses, Native
American men & women with totem animals, Celtic
& Pagan designs, flowers, animals and countless
other designs, including one-of-a-kind pendants in
beautiful detail. All
of Made’s carvings are specially priced. Even though
most items are less than $15, they require many hours of
detailed work--carving and polishing by hand.
A few examples of Made's work--Each of
these pendants is $14.75.
