Beading Basics: Stringing and Earrings with Sarah Johnson

Objective:
To introduce the student to the fundamentals of beading. Class will include walkthrough of tools, findings, materials, basic design principles, and types of beads/beadwork. The student will have the option of making earrings, and a bracelet or necklace (both if time allows). Class will be two hours long, with the first half mostly dedicated to design and introduction, and the second half to technique. Students will leave class with finished pieces.
Materials:
Tools will be provided, as well as base metal findings and stringing wire. If the student wishes to use higher quality materials, they can shop before the class starts. Beads are the only item not provided. Students may bring their own, or if they prefer, a store walkthrough and brief design council before the start of class can be arranged.

If the student wishes to bring their own supplies, the following items will be needed:

• Round Nose Pliers
• Chain Nose Pliers
• Cutter
• Crimp Tubes (2 x 2mm is suggested)
• Clasps
• Soldered Jump Rings or Split Rings
• Stringing Wire (Softflex Brand is recommended)
• Assortment of Focal Beads (at least 3)
• Assortment of supplementary beads (at least 16" worth)
• Earwires
• Headpins (2" recommended)
